Formerly accommodation for on-call doctors at St Anthony's Hospital, the refurbishment of St Mary's provides 10 new bedrooms with en-suite facilities. A new kitchen, living and office facilities are provided on the ground floor, whilst to the side a timber clad extension with green roof contains a new chapel. At the rear a landscaped garden has been created with a water feature – a focal point for the chapel.
The building has been designed to meet high standards of energy efficiency and sustainability. The original 1950s thermal envelope has been upgraded significantly to exceed part L requirements, whilst 20% of its energy needs will be achieved from onsite renewable energy in the form of solar panels.
